1. Do I have to make an appointment or can I walk in?
A scheduled appointment is required for all grooming services. We typically book 2-3 weeks out for weekdays and 1 month for weekends. Holidays start to book up at least a month in advance. We recommend scheduling your next appointment when you pick up your pet.
We do not require an appointment for a nail trim, however we do recommend that you call ahead of time so you won’t have to wait when you arrive.
2. How long does it take to groom my pet?
The time varies based on breed, temperament, coat condition and the grooming service requested. The typical groom takes 2-3 hours. Breed specific cuts, all over hand scissoring, severely matted coats, elderly pets or those with certain medical conditions will take longer. We will give you an estimated time when you drop off your pet and we will call you as soon as they are finished.
3. What vaccinations do you require?
For the health and safety of your pet and our staff, and as required by the State of Rhode Island, all pets need to be up to date on their rabies vaccine. We can call your veterinarian’s office for confirmation prior to the visit. Rabies tags cannot be accepted as proof of vaccination.
While not required, we also recommend your dog get a distemper and kennel cough vaccine. Please call your veterinarian to discuss the benefits of vaccinating your pet.
4. What if my pet has never been to the groomer, doesn’t like to be groomed or is aggressive?
Our first priority is the comfort and safety of your pet. We follow your pet’s lead and will work at a pace that is most comfortable for them. We give pets frequent breaks during the groom, especially if they seem nervous, scared or stressed out. We will do everything we can to put them at ease.
If you know that your dog doesn’t like to be groomed or is aggressive please let us know prior to the start of the groom. We will work with you and your pet to find out what situation will help create a better experience for them, i.e. gender of groomer, a time when there are fewer dogs here, nail grinding as opposed to clipping etc. We will not continue with the groom if we feel the pet or staff’s safety is at risk.
5. How often should my pet be groomed?
We usually recommend every 4-6 weeks depending on the dog, coat and look you want to maintain. The groomer will let you know what is best for your pet.
6. Do you groom cats?
7. Will my pet be sedated?
No, we do not sedate any pets.
8. Can I restrain my pet during the appointment?
For the safety of your pet, yourself and our staff we do not allow owners to restrain during the appointment. Our staff is trained and experienced in reading behavioral cues and in proper restraint techniques in order to prevent injury from occurring.
8. What is your cancellation policy?
We require a 24 hour notice for a cancelation or to reschedule an appointment. A $15 fee will be applied if less than 24 hour notice is given. We understand that in certain situations, such as emergencies, a 24 hour notice cannot be given. In these cases the fee may be waived. For appointments that are missed without a phone call a fee of 50% the visit will be applied to your account.
9. I was charged a de-matting fee, what are mats and why is there an extra fee?
Mats are when your pet’s fur is tightly tangled or knotted. Mats will pull at the skin as your pet moves around, causing pain and can lead to skin irritation and infections. As well as being uncomfortable mats can be a nest for fleas, moisture, urine and fecal matter.
De-matting is time consuming and can be painful for your pet. Brushing out mats can take several hours and the pet will need several breaks during the process. If the mats are tight or too close to the skin the only option may be to shave them out, this is at the discretion of the groomer. We will try to let you know prior to the groom if your pet is matted and if they will need to be shaved out.
Your groomer can discuss with you how to prevent matting from occurring in your pet’s fur.
